DYCD-ExpandED Partnership
Training the City to Run Great Afterschool Programs
Each year, ExpandED provides hundreds of trainings to afterschool educators and technical support to city-funded afterschool programs through a partnership with the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development. Workshops may be single events or part of a thematic series for cohorts of educators. Any community-based organization that runs a DYCD-funded afterschool program is eligible to participate at no cost in these trainings.
Areas of Expertise
IT/Data Management
These trainings are intended for afterschool program staff members, from front-line workers to program supervisors who use the DYCD Connect database. ExpandED also runs a Help Center to provide day-to-day technical support and creates system-specific user guides and web tutorials for all DYCD programs.
STEM and Life Science
These standalone and cohort-based trainings are designed for afterschool program staff members interested in building and sustaining quality STEM programming aligned with the DYCD STEM Framework.
Literacy
These trainings serve to strengthen afterschool and summer literacy program activities by helping educators develop the skills and tools to boost students’ literacy.
Trainings are based on the DYCD Literacy Framework.
Technology and Computer Science
These trainings help afterschool programs implement computer science learning opportunities. In addition, through a partnership with LaGuardia Community College and DYCD, ExpandED trains afterschool staff to lead computer science activities in afterschool.
