Conducting Research to Advance Afterschool Programs
ExpandED research is designed to improve program quality and demonstrate the critical role that afterschool plays in helping young people thrive in New York City. The research team employs a culturally responsive, participatory and strength-based approach to evaluating afterschool programming. It conducts research and evaluation work in three core areas:
- External evaluation of afterschool and summer youth development programming
- Internal program evaluation of ExpandED’s core areas of work
- Research to inform the afterschool field in NYC and nationwide

Research Work
ExpandED is one of the largest certified evaluators of afterschool programming. We are adept at engaging adults, youth and community stakeholders with interviews, surveys, focus groups, among other qualitative and quantitative methods.
Research clients include NYCDOE and NYC Department of Youth and Community Development as well as programs funded by 21st Century Community Learning Centers, Extended School Day/School Violence Prevention, Advantage After School, Empire and more.
