Career-Connected Learning

Career-Connected Learning that Shapes Futures

ExpandED promotes in-school and out-of-school career-connected learning opportunities that enable young people to learn about themselves, identify careers of interest and prepare for their post-secondary lives. In collaboration with partnering schools, community-based organizations and young people, ExpandED integrates career-connected learning into the school day, helps establish credit-bearing programs and ensures programs integrate culturally responsive practices that support students’ social and emotional development.

Our Programs

ExpandED Options

This career-connected learning program offers high school students the opportunity to earn an academic credit while learning professional skills and expertise, which they then use to teach younger youth during the summer. Participants are eligible for paid summer jobs.

WBL Institute

ExpandED works with schools and community-based organizations to build career-connected learning partnerships, connect WBL programming to graduation requirements and develop sustainable systems.

Exploring Futures

In partnership with the Department of Education and Mayor’s Office for Youth Employment, ExpandED works to help middle school students begin to connect their interest to potential careers and education pathways through a combination of school-day and afterschool learning activities.

Career-Connected Learning Learning Framework

ExpandED’s approach to Work Based Learning is centered on programming that increases students self awareness, builds opportunities for self and social advocacy, centers supportive relationships and includes meaningful youth decision making. Our framework illustrates outcomes for youth and the role of adults in our WBL initiatives.
