More and Better Learning: Year Three Report on ExpandED Schools

Date Added:

June 15, 2015

When ExpandED Schools launched its national demonstration three years ago, we sought to offer elementary and middle school students in Baltimore, New Orleans and New York a chance to expand their horizons, boost their engagement in school, and build their academic, social and emotional skills for future success. What we learned is that ExpandED Schools offers a powerful strategy for schools to advance their culture, foster healthy social and emotional development of young people, and promote academic progress.

Over three years, as we’ve built growth mindsets in the children we educate, we have also fostered within the school communities we’ve supported a belief in their continued growth as well. These schools can assess progress and evolve, continually building skills for future success.

These implementation findings are coupled with strong academic, social and emotional gains for students, and strong ratings of school climate by parents, teachers and students.

ExpandED Schools Year Three Report

In 2011, ExpandED Schools (formerly TASC) launched a national demonstration of its expanded learning initiative in elementary and middle schools in New York City, Baltimore and New Orleans. This report presents findings from the third year of this demonstration project, as well as lessons learned by ExpandED Schools and our partners as schools begin to break from the outdated school calendar.
