Job Opportunity: Programs Data Analyst & Trainer

ExpandED Schools works to ensure that all kids, from every zip code, have opportunities to discover their talents and develop their full potential. So we give kids more hours in the school day, bring more role models into the classroom, and infuse their learning with the arts, STEM, sports and character-building activities. These are the supports and experiences kids need in order to grow into caring, confident and successful adults. In our first decade, we created the nation’s first citywide system of K-12 after-school programs and leveraged more than four dollars in private and public spending for every dollar of our founding grant. Today, we continue to reimagine learning time – in school, after school and during the summer – seeking to ensure that all kids have opportunities to discover their talents and develop their full potential. We develop scalable and sustainable models that provide more learning time. We:

  • EXPAND the school day: Adding 2.5 hours each day; closing the learning gap by 450 hours/school year.
  • ENGAGE the community: Bringing additional role models – tutors, coaches, college students and teaching artists – into the classroom.
  • ENHANCE the learning: Balancing the curriculum with the arts, sports, STEM and character-building enrichments.


Purpose of Position
ExpandED Schools’ Operations Division provides resources and support to education and out-of-school time partners. The support takes many different forms, including training, technical assistance, and consultation regarding program design, data, staffing, and curriculum. Reporting to the Senior Director, Capacity Building and dually supported by the Senior Director of Research, the Programs Data Analyst & Trainer will prepare regular enrollment and attendance reports, and provide training and TA to help out-of-school time (OST) programs monitor and report data accurately to funders and to use data systems as effective management tools. This is a role with joint functions that sits on both the research and operations teams at ExpandED Schools, with the goal of bridging the utilization of data for these divisions.

Duties & Responsibilities:   

  • Deliver beginner, intermediate and advanced trainings for front-line and management staff of community-based organizations (CBOs) in the effective use of data management systems, including DYCD Online and YouthServices.net.
  • Respond to requests for help and support that come to ExpandED Schools’ help desk and the DYCD Online help desk, documenting in a log each call or email and the help provided. Provide all aspects of technical assistance ranging from: intake, assessment, creating work plan development and delivery of consultation and follow-up.
  • Work with DYCD’s Deputy Director of Management systems on projects analyzing system data to ensure data quality and tailor technical assistance to address areas of challenge for DYCD Online users.
  • Develop monthly reports sharing enrollment and attendance trends of ExpandED Schools, present data to colleagues and facilitate conversations as they prepare to coach school teams.
  • Prepare mid-year and year-end enrollment and attendance reports used to track our research and to report to funders and partners.
  • Track ExpandED Schools’ annual number counts of total programs, youth served and individuals trained.
  • Fulfill data requests for ExpandED Schools policy, programs, communications and research teams

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Demonstrated capacity for teamwork and problem-solving; comfortable working both independently and collaboratively
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication skills: effective presentation and training skills; ability to compose clear, concise emails, memos and reports that require little or no editing
  • Strong data quality & reporting, and analytic and writing skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office applications, especially excel (e.g. filter, pivot table, v-look up)
  • Working knowledge of Tableau or other data visualization tools preferred
  • Experience with iMovie, other video editing software or creating web tutorials a plus
  • Familiarity with databases and data management a must; knowledge of DYCD Online or Youthservices.net a plus
  • Experience in position(s) requiring strong customer service skills is ideal, especially demonstrating the ability to excel in an environment with competing demands
  • Prior experience facilitating workshops a plus
