Introducing 'Team ExpandED Schools'

Jhaneel Lockhart

Jhaneel Lockhart is the Development Associate at ExpandED Schools.

On March 20, ExpandED Schools will be participating in the United Airlines NYC Half for the second year in a row, and we couldn’t be more excited!

We are thrilled to announce our 2016 team of runners who have committed to raise funds to help close the learning gap, all while training to run an impressive 13.1 miles.

Edith Cooper
Edith Cooper

Edith is global head of Human Capital Management at Goldman Sachs. She is on various committees at the firm and serves as vice chair of the Partnership Committee. In addition to being an ExpandED Schools board member, she serves on the Northwestern University Board of Trustees, where she earned her Master's degree, and the President’s Leadership Council of Brown University.

Why she's running:

“I am running to highlight the level of commitment that ExpandED Schools demonstrates each and every day to the kids.”

Markus Fischer
Markus Fischer

Markus moved to New York City in 2012. He currently works at Goldman Sachs in the Executive Office with a focus on client strategy and is a proud Columbia Business School graduate. He is the fiancé of Junior Board member Danielle Kennedy.

Why he's running:

“I love running - especially to raise awareness to improve education or financial literacy, two causes very important to me. I look forward to running for ExpandED and hope that each mile I complete will help support even more hours of education and improve the chances of the children who are part of the program.”

Favorite song on his running playlist:

“Alors on Danse Remix ft. Kanye West” by Stromae

David Levy
David Levy

David is married to Deb (Director of Communications and Marketing at ExpandED Schools) and lives in Montclair, NJ. He has three kids who are still young enough to believe their father knows everything and runs marathons in his spare time (or in this case, half-marathons).

Why he's running:

"Before I had kids of my own, I volunteered with Ice Hockey in Harlem and NY Cares to give kids experiences they normally wouldn’t have received. Now, I spend my waking hours shuttling my three kids to all their sports and activities and I see how much they gain from it. All kids should have those opportunities. I’m doing this run to help level the playing field and bring awareness about the mission of ExpandED Schools."

Favorite song(s) on his running playlist:

"Good Luck" by Basement Jaxx
"Mosquito Song" by Seun Kuti & Egypt 80
"Love Removal Machine" by The Cult
"Spirit of 76" by The Alarm
"Loser Like Me" by Glee Cast (Season Two)

Omar Njie
Omar Njie

Omar is a life sciences and healthcare consultant for Deloitte where he focuses on strategy and mergers and acquisitions. He graduated from Yale University with a master's degree in Public Health and a bachelor's degree in Global Affairs (concentrations in economic development and global health). He is a member of the ExpandED Schools Junior Board.

Why he's running:

"Visiting PS 186 in the fall, I was heartened to see the ExpandED Schools model at work. The students exuded curiosity and were all too eager to display their feats of breakdance, musical theater and physics to their intrigued guests.

I am running the NYC half marathon so that the students of PS 186 can continue to reap the benefits of the ExpandED school day, and so that this programming can reach the countless other children who so desperately need it."

Why he's running:

“I would like to participate in this event because it will be a personal challenge, as it will be my first running event, where my participation benefits an organization that I am deeply committed to.”
