Calling all runners! Run with ExpandED Schools in the NYC Half

Charles Yoo

Charles Yoo is the Development Associate at ExpandED Schools.

It’s that time of the year … when people everywhere are starting to think about New Year’s resolutions. And have we got a great one for you that will knock out two goals at the same time: exercise more and do good in the world.

Yes, for the third year in a row ExpandED Schools has been selected to participate in the United Airlines NYC Half Marathon. Which means we have FIVE guaranteed spots for the 13.1-mile race through Manhattan taking place on Sunday, March 20, 2017.

Picture yourself running like the wind (or jogging … slowly is fine!) through the streets of New York with 7,000 other intrepid souls, all the while closing the opportunity gap for thousands of kids in the city. Our team may run at different paces, but all with the same goal: ensure that kids from every zip code have more time to discover their talents, role models who can help them evolve from curious youngsters to confident adults and a school day infused with the kind of learning that sparks joy.

As a runner on Team ExpandED, you will be asked to raise a minimum of $1,500. However, being part of the team has its own perks as well, such as:

  • Free Team ExpandED T-shirt to wear proudly on race day

  • A spirited cheering squad (myself included) along the route

  • A personal fundraising website

  • A customized playlist made by the ExpandED Schools team

  • Bragging rights to your co-workers, friends and family that you are running to help thousands of kids and a network of schools who need your support now more than ever

Whether you’re striving to break a personal record, or just looking to get caught up in marathon fever, click here to apply.  And know that I’ll be there on the sideline cheering you on.

Check out these snapshots of some of our previous year's runners. This could be you! Apply today.
